Based on the internationally best selling Alain De Botton novel, Essays in Love (US title On Love), My Last Five Girlfriends is written and directed by multi -BAFTA and International Emmy award-winning director Julian Kemp. It's the story of the lovelorn Duncan (Brendan Patricks), who takes the audience on a playful, visually inventive and hilarious trip as he recounts his last five relationships. With advice from many sources and intense flights of fancy, Duncan finally realises that love is a battleground where only the fittest can survive. The film was shot on location in London, Paris and Spain and uses a dazzling array of filmic techniques to tell this universal story of the pursuit of true love.
My Last Five Girlfriends received rave reviews at the Tribeca Film Festival and played to sold out houses for all four of its screenings. Tribeca co-founder Jane Rosenthal named it as her “hot tip of the festival,” and AMC TV called it a “hilarious, out-of-the-ordinary British comedy,” saying that star Brendan Patricks “is as fresh as Hugh Grant was coming off of Four Weddings and a Funeral.” IFC Channel called the film “a revved-up High Fidelity," and AM NewYork called it “sublimely refreshing… like something you've never seen.” The NY Press called it “a captivating whirlwind of a tale, tapping into Michel Gondry/Charlie Kaufman-esque surrealism and wry quirkiness…a comic delight!”
My Last Five Girlfriends is the first film from the producing partnership of Marion Pilowsky and David Willing. It was originally developed by Michael Kelk at Wire Films. |
