Media 8 Entertainment announced today that Charlize Theron, star of its film “Monster,” has been nominated for the prestigious Screen Actors Guild award in the category of “Best Actress.” This latest nomination marks a key milestone in the Academy Awards race and further solidifies Theron's status as a leading Oscar contender for Best Actress.
“This latest nomination is yet another tribute to the remarkable, critically-acclaimed performance that Charlize gives in ‘Monster,'” stated David Gaynes, Sr. V.P. of Marketing & Publicity. “We are delighted that the Screen Actors Guild has recognized the caliber of her work in the film,” added Gaynes.
“Monster” is being released theatrically in the United States by Newmarket Films, and will expand to approximately 125 additional locations today, for a total of over 200 locations. In the past three weekends of US release, “Monster” has performed outstandingly at the box office, ranking as the #1 movie per screen among independent theatrical films and grossing over US$1.4 million through this past Sunday.
The SAG nomination marks another achievement for Ms. Theron and the film. This past Saturday Ms. Theron won the “Best Actress” award at the Broadcast Film Critics Association's ninth annual Critics' Choice Awards, and on Tuesday in New York City Ms. Theron accepted the award for “Breakthrough Performance – Actress” from the National Board of Review. In addition, Ms. Theron has received a prestigious Golden Globe nomination in the category of “Best Actress- Drama,” with the winner to be announced on January 25th. Ms. Theron has also already collected the award for “Best Actress” from the San Francisco Film Critics Circle, the National Society of Film Critics, the Southeastern Film Critics, the New York Film Critics Online, and the CNN Radio Movie Awards. |
