Media 8 Entertainment announced today that Charlize Theron, star of its film “Monster,” has won the award for “Best Actress” from the Chicago Film Critics Association. This latest honor further strengthens Ms. Theron's status an Academy Award front-runner, as the Oscar nominations approach on January 27th. In addition, Ms. Theron is nominated for a Golden Globe in the category of “Best Actress -Drama,” with the winner to be announced this Sunday on the nationally televised (NBC) gala Golden Globes Awards ceremony.
“Charlize's performance in ‘Monster' continues to resonate with both critics and audiences alike,'' stated David Gaynes, Sr. V.P. of Marketing & Publicity. “It's fantastic to see the film continue to be so positively received critically, and to continue to perform so strongly at the box office,” added Gaynes.
Most recently, Ms. Theron received a nomination for “Best Actress” from the Screen Actors Guild, and won the “Best Actress” award from the Broadcast Film Critics Association. In addition, Ms. Theron has won the award for “Breakthrough Performance – Actress” from the National Board of Review, and “Best Actress” honors from the San Francisco Film Critics Circle, the National Society of Film Critics, the Southeastern Film Critics, the New York Film Critics Online, the Las Vegas Film Critics, the Dallas/ Fort Worth Film Critics, and the CNN Radio Movie Awards.
“Monster” is being released theatrically in the United States by Newmarket Films, and will expand to over 300 locations today. In the past four weekends of US release, “Monster” has performed outstandingly at the box office, ranking as one of the top movies per screen and grossing nearly US$3.6 million through this past Sunday. |
