Media 8 Entertainment announced today that its feature film “Monster” performed outstandingly yet again at the North American box office this past weekend. The film grossed over $2 million in the US and Canada combined for the Friday-Sunday period, bringing the film's cumulative gross to over $6 million. Additionally, on Sunday night, “Monster” star Charlize Theron won the highly prestigious Golden Globe Award for “Best Actress - Drama,” in a nationally televised ceremony that was widely seen, drawing an impressive 32 percent of the national TV viewing audience. This tremendous boost of visibility for the film should give the film even more box office momentum as it continues to expand into more markets. Ms. Theron is also considered a very likely Academy Award nominee for her critically acclaimed performance. With the nominations to be announced tomorrow, an Oscar nod would bring more visibility to the film and draw new audiences.
The film will expand to approximately 600 theaters this upcoming weekend.
“We're very pleased with ‘Monster's' continuing theatrical success at the box office,'' stated David Gaynes, Sr. V.P. of Marketing & Publicity. “Charlize's Golden Globe win and the ongoing critical acclaim and commercial acceptance for the film indicates that the box office run for the film should continue to grow,” added Gaynes. |
