Media 8 Entertainment announced today that its feature film “Monster” will have its European premiere this Sunday at the world renowned Berlin International Film Festival. “Monster” star Charlize Theron will be present at the gala red-carpet premiere, along with writer-director Patty Jenkins. “Monster” is one of only 26 films selected for this prestigious international “Competition” section of the festival, in which films are judged by a seven member jury of international film experts, chaired this year by Academy Award winner Frances McDormand. The jury will award nine prizes, including honors for Best Actress, Best Actor, and the “Golden Bear” award for the Best Film. The Berlin International Film Festival is considered one of the film industry's most important platforms for screening new films internationally, and films participating in the festival also benefit from the substantial worldwide media attention that the festival draws. “Monster's” premiere at Berlin is timed to kick off the film's German theatrical release, which will be through EMS New Media AG.
The Berlin premiere of “Monster” continues the auspicious pattern set by the film's highly successful North American debut. Since its US theatrical release in December through Newmarket Films, the film has performed very strongly at the box office, with a cumulative gross of $10.6 million through last Sunday. |
