Media 8 Entertainment announced today that "Monster" star Charlize Theron won a prestigious “Silver Bear” award for Best Actress at the Berlin International Film Festival this past Saturday. The Silver Bear, which is awarded by the festival's jury of international film experts, chaired this year by Academy Award winner Frances McDormand, is yet another impressive kudos for “Monster” and Ms. Theron. “Monster” made its gala European debut at the festival, where it was received very favorably by both members of the international film industry and by international film critics.
“We are very happy that Charlize's incredible performance continues to be recognized and rewarded,” stated Sammy Lee, Vice Chairman of the Board. “It's been extremely heartening to see how “Monster” has emerged as one of this year's leading independent films, resonating with both critics and audiences alike,” added Lee.
The Silver Bear is just the latest in a growing collection of awards that Ms. Theron has won for her performance in “Monster.” Most notably she won the Golden Globe award, and has garnered a Best Actress nomination for the Academy Award. The Academy Awards will be given out on February 29th in an internationally televised gala ceremony.
Through its eighth week of release in North America, “Monster” has grossed nearly US$20 million. “Monster” is being released in the US by Newmarket Films. |
