MEDIA 8 ENTERTAINMENT'S “MONSTER” WINS MAJOR INDEPENDENT SPIRIT AWARDS
Media 8 Entertainment announced that its film "Monster" won two major awards at this past Saturday's IFP Independent Spirit Awards. “Monster” star Charlize Theron won yet another “Best Actress” award, and writer/director Patty Jenkins collected the award for “Best First Feature.” The IFP Independent Spirit Awards are considered to be the independent film community's version of the Oscars, honoring only those films produced and financed outside of the traditional Hollywood studio system. Ms. Theron and Ms. Jenkins were both on hand to accept the awards at the nationally televised beachfront ceremony in Santa Monica, California.
“We are thrilled to see Charlize and Patty be honored by the independent filmmaking community for their standout work,” said David Gaynes, Senior V.P. of Marketing. “'Monster' has truly become one of the year's biggest independent filmmaking success stories, as it continues to win over both critics as well as audiences at the box office. These awards are a testament to all the hard work that everyone put into this film.”
Ms. Theron has won numerous other awards for her performance in “Monster,” including most recently the Screen Actors Guild Award, the prestigious Silver Bear award at the Berlin Film Festival, and the Golden Globe Award for Best Actress in a Drama.
